I’ll set aside some time to trouble shoot this, probably this weekend with a decent write up for replication.
I would love to see:
- a key generator (from luma, chroma) (because I love solarization and the sabattier effect aka pseudo solarization)
- support of the 14-bit midi standard (for finer automations, e.g. Freq A/B, colors, gain, saturation)
- feedback mode “recursion” (would be truly awesome for live video input performance)
- a function to reset all settings to the default state (press all 3 buttons for 3 seconds)
Just save a front panel preset
A tiny bit of smoothing would be great. Can’t use any kind of slow MIDI modulation without the stepping being visible
@BlackSun Can you just save a preset to achieve this “reset” the 3 button combos and all their timings are pretty tied up saving and recalling presets.
@BlackSun not sure what you mean by: feedback mode “recursion” all the feedback modes are recursive in nature.
Also not sure what you mean by a key generator but the lumakeying function (currently only on video input in 2.2) is coming to all shapes in the upcoming update.
- Okidoki, I will try a usb-hub for the presets. I’m not a big fan of this approach but who cares.
- Yeah, my comment about the feedback mode was too general. I realize that now.
I meant a specific feedback behavior but forget the point. - What is not clear about the key generator topic? I would love to use chroma and luma keying. What should I explain?
Specifically speaking to the resolution issue, a possible solution I have proposed is that in MIDI control there could be potentially both “normal” (current level) of resolution and a “fine grained” mode for each control that would provide smaller steps but fewer of them (due to still having a 128 value limit).
I don’t know if that proposal would be as useful to you, but it was a thing I thought may be easier to implement than full 14-bit support. I’m not involved with development anyway but I definitely do see a use for this myself.
Right now I’m trying to be more creative with the restrictions.
I love my Hypno and should simply try to get to know the device even better.
Otherwise, to your point: I think smoothing out the internal steps,
say between CC 1 100 and CC 1 101, sounds most promising and not the 14-bit support route. Your solution could also be good. Tbh: I don’t know. ^^
Here is an example of a creative detour: scratch noises
So I did a little basic test running a 1hz sine LFO on ch 28 (feedback depth). You can see it works a about 15 seconds and then starts to drop and doesn’t really recover hypno frame drops - YouTube
I was going to do a firmware rollback but it looks like I trashed it to save space and I can’t find it on the firmware downloads anymore. Is it still available?
Edit: and just for a sanity check I reflashed with the latest firmware and still see the behavior.
Edit2: I did some more testing with the stepped LFO in Hydrasynth and it looks like it can handle 16 steps per cycle up to about 38hz. around 40hz there is some very slight frame drop.
@SleepyRon
Thanks for this detailed feedback @slippage this is great! sorry youre having issues w it, I will attempt to recreate this on my end and get this resolved as soon as I’m able.
general FYI im pretty deep into development of the new version but its an overhaul of the Video in functionality so still needs more debugging so i will be retesting all the midi functions on it very soon.
Sorry i got confused about the luma stuff bc its already present on the device. Next patch enables luma keying for all shapes
I haven’t figured out a good UX flow for chroma keying so i will be leaving this for later on, though i agree this would be great to have.
14 bit midi is definitely on my radar, however it sounds like the basic midi stuff isn’t totally foolproof just yet so I will move on to this once the other stuff isa little more mature, likely starting with simple CC smoothing since that would probably be fastest in practice.
Thanks all for the patience with the growing pains of the USB + midi stuff, i’m hoping to release a patch soon with some much needed fixes, been a bit occupied with delivering the initial batch of DIY Hypno since its a new hardware process for Sleepy.
@SleepyRon is there a place I can get the old firmware in case I am mistaken about its former functionality?
sure, heres a link to the 2.1.7
Idk if the midi issues go back but in my experience most of the bugs got introduced with the recent patch since its got video loading.
