Please for the love of god implement PC messages

I love my Hypno but come on, note on/off messages for recalling and saving presets has got to be the clunkiest way possible. Now with Hypno 2 on the way I don’t know what hope there is for an update but it would be amazing to be able to access presets past the 3 on the faceplace via PC messages like… y’know… every other MIDI capable device I’ve ever used. I’ve been trying to integrate this into my live setup and this has been the major stumbling block so far, any suggestions for a super small standalone device that could even be used to manually change programs are welcome (would a USB numpad work)?

Maybe not as small as you want, but I use Digitone midi tracks in keyboard mode + note trigs. Works with Digitakt too. Couldn’t be easier. Long press a note to save a preset and tap to recall.

It’s just a workaround for those who have Digitone. We need a proper working function for every device with MIDI. Is it so hard to implement properly? It’s already known bug which no one is going to repair for several years now. It’s a pitty because it would open up a device for far more live use.

I’ll just chime in here saying I’ve used an MPC, a Force, and a Hydrasynth for live use. I think anything with the ability to send MIDI notes (as well as be and be the MIDI host) is all that is needed.

PC changes would be nice, yes, but I’ve been gigging with my Hypno for the last 2.5 years with this simple functionality and it hasn’t even crossed my mind. For my sets, I simply send a single note press at the beginning of a sequence to MIDI channel 16 at the start of the verse, chorus, etc. to change the presets. I have a gig for NYE where I am VJing the majority of it and am doing everything with a few flash drives for additional presets, and a Hydrasynth to trigger them as well as CV mods.

Fair enough; I have an MPC Live II but haven’t been able to test as it doesn’t support midi via usb. More cables to buy just to try it out. I’m sure there are ways to work around Hypno’s limitations but it’s just frustrating considering every other midi device I own and use is so much more compatible and less choosy.
Again, if anyone knows of a small controller that’s not a full keyboard or MPC style device, happy for any tips. Cheers

You are correct about that! The workaround for the MPC is to use 5-pin MIDI out from the MPC, and then to a MIDI->USB to the Hypno.

Its ALL a “workaround” because MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface its not a Video Instrument Digital Interface and there is no accepted way to do this. So this is not a bug, its a feature request.

Also, we make a small controller that works nice with Hypno preset recall, its called Mezzz & before you start flaming me for self promo there is a world of other MIDI devices that send notes just fine that I’m sure you can find with a short google. All those controllers likely support note messages but its less likely they support program changes.

(Also I’m an atheist so not interested in showing love for any gods tbh…)

okay. I have other visuals synths that work fine with midi PCs, but I don’t know about the internal architecture of it all. This thread is definitely a request, if you decide to update the firmware at some point I’m sure I and others would be stoked on this feature being implemented.

I’m sure that I and others would NOT be stoked by having a bunch of performances that have been sequenced using note messages being broken. It’s really simple. If you don’t like the system, move on.

I fail to see how implementing PC changes would break your system unless you’re running multiple devices on the same channel. You could keep both note on/off and PC as a method of recall.
But whatever mannnn enjoy your set and I’ll go buy some more gear
