APC40 to simultaneosly control Hypno 1 and Resolume via MIDI

Hey guys! Getting a bit desperate here. I just recently decided to get rid of two separate MIDI controllers that are taking too much space in the case and on the table and to move to one apc40. The plan was to reserve some of the many apc40’s buttons and knobs to control just the Hypno and some to control just the Resolume’s effects.

I wanted to use Bome MIDI Translator pro to send translated signals form apc40, since it is not configurable message-wise and Hypno is very specific in what messages on what channel it can receive. But Bome just doesn’t see Hypno as a MIDI output. I’m thinking about buying a MIDI splitter, but they all work with 5-pin DIN connectors and it seems so stupid to buy so many DIN-to-usb connectors if all I want is to connect 3 usb devices together. Did anyone ever happen to have the setup of controlling Hypno along with another host device or app with a single MIDI controller?

I use this with my OG Hypno,

and this with my Digitone as a controller,

Works perfectly with no cables.

Cool!
So you plug WIDI Bud Pro to your Hypno and your computer sees it as a MIDI output target?

The WIDI Bud gets plugged into my Hypno (I’ve never tried to view it from my computer) and the WIDI Master plugs into my Digitone to establish midi connection from the Digitone to the Hypno.

Well that doesn’t answer my question about how to control two devices with one controller.

I’ve never used Resolume or the APC40. You asked for a simple way to connect devices and I gave it you. Not gonna hold your hand any further. I suggest CME user manuals and Reddit.

I have actually managed to make it work. I’m pretty sure that my setup isn’t really a common one and it won’t be really useful for everyone, but still, for future generations, here’s how it works for me.

APC40 → Laptop through USB-B to USB-C cable → Resolume Arena
Laptop → CME C2MIDI ProDIN female 2 female adapterCME U2 MIDI Pro → Hypno

The translation of the Midi signal from APC40 to Hypno goes through Bome MIDI Translator Pro (The most expensive part of the setup, costs €60). I set up translation for all Note On and Note Off (don’t forget those, otherwise Hypno will think that you are holding the button forever, and will rewrite your presets, happened to me) messages, coming from APC40, which uses different channels and notes for its buttons to channel 16, that Hypno listens to. The same goes to CC messages.

Since Hypno doesn’t send any midi feedback back to APC40, I have used a hack, adding a bypassed effect (any, with enough parameters) in Resolume, and assigning the knobs, that I assigned to Hypno parameters through Bome Translater, to its parameters as well, so I can see the lights around the knobs to show the actual position within the 0…127 range.

Works pretty smooth, but requires a bit of setup.
