Mezzz won't turn on after firmware upgrade

Hiya.

I was trying to update the Mezzz firmware to 1.4 (I am a bit behind), and followed the instructions. Unfortunately, while it seemed to flash okay (aside from an MD5 error), when I went to reset as instructed, it… won’t turn back on. I’ve tried everything I can think of, but can’t seem to re-flash either since it won’t turn on to be recognised.

Any ideas?

Sooo eh, fun story. I got an Analogue 3D - the N64 remake thing today, and I am prettyyy sure I somehow managed to flash Mezzz with the bin file for that instead. Which would explain why I got the MD5 hash warning, and… why it won’t turn on.

This will go down in history as one of the dumbest things I’ve managed to do.

I spent some time with assistance from chatGPT trying to figure out how I could fix this. I tried holding down various combinations of buttons including the sides, middle, middle then sides, tapping, etc - in a bid to get the bootloader to do its thing, but. No joy.

I took Mezzz out of its case to see if I could identify the pins/pads to short and hopefully bring the ESP32 back to life but the design is too smart for my pea-brain. I get the impression I might need to get some kind of UART programmer to kickstart it into life again, but… that is beyond me, so if @SleepyRon or other wonderful folks have suggestions, I’d appreciate it! I know this is completely my fault. Please don’t mock. Too much.

Hey I sent ya an email with some recommended troubleshooting steps hopefully we can recover this one; def a weird situation hah

(situation was resolved via email so closing thread)
